Highlights from the interview
Dr. Frieda Wiley explained her experience with remote pharmacist work from 2012 to present. In the beginning, she thought that transitioning from in-person work to remote work would be seamless. Unfortunately, it was not seamless for her. Video conferencing was not common in 2012, and she felt isolated. Although video conferencing is common now, remote work can feel isolating.
There is no clinical criteria for telecommuting psychosis, as of May 2023. Therefore, Dr. Wiley shared her own definition during the interview. How much a telecommuter struggles depends on their personality type and the nature of their work.
The audience for this book is telecommuters, career-development professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, researchers, psychologists, psychiatrists, anyone who has a sedentary job (ex: truck drivers), and clinicians in the mental health space.
Dr. Wiley read a sample from Chapter 3: “Nine Major Myths About Telecommuting.”
You can buy the book on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and by request at independent bookstores. At some point, Dr. Wiley would like to narrate the audiobook.
“There’s no shame in seeking help in the mental health space,” according to Dr. Wiley. As with most 12-step programs, admitting there’s a problem is the first step.
Although Dr. Wiley describes the features of telecommuting psychosis in her book, she also shares data, resources, her story, a screening questionnaire, and solutions for successful telecommuting.
Dr. Wiley is working on a 3-book Women in Politics series for children. The books will highlight women who ran for president before Hillary Clinton. It was Dr. Wiley’s childhood dream to write children’s books.
