Highlights from our conversation
During our conversation, we discussed the origin of The Prescription Shoppe in Williamsburg, VA, which is a full-service independent community pharmacy. The second location is a long term care pharmacy and compounding lab. The Prescription Shoppe (Williamsburg, VA) is also the first black-owned pharmacy in Williamsburg, Virginia.
What makes their pharmacy special is the services they offer. Beyond dispensing, they administer vaccines, provide MTM, offer a pill-packaging service, and do compounding. Jade enjoys compounding and collaborating with prescribers to dose patients.
Jade’s favorite thing about working in the community is her patients. She enjoys spending time with them, getting to know them, and taking care of their needs.
Not all pharmacists are married to another pharmacist, but Jade and her husband Henry are both pharmacists. They work together and so much more. They make excellent business and life partners.
Leaving a legacy is important to Jade. We discussed the articles she writes for the Virginia Gazette, her book Mustard Seed Mentality, opening two pharmacies in 5 years with her husband Henry, and Ranger Consulting.
Dr. Jade L. Ranger and her husband Dr. Henry Ranger mentor future pharmacy owners of color through Ranger Consulting. Their mentees feel a comfortable rapport with Jade and Henry, and they appreciate that mentorship cuts learning curve.
By setting an example of success, Drs. Jade and Henry Ranger give their mentees hope; they had faith that their independent community pharmacy would be a success, and they are sharing mustard seeds of faith with their mentees.
Toward the end of our conversation, we discussed Jade’s family history with breast cancer. Her older sister and mother are breast cancer survivors. ** Early detection saves lives. Get your routine screenings please.** Providing gift bags to her patients fighting breast cancer evolved into a business idea called, “Battle Baskets.” Inside each basket are little things to lift a person’s spirits. From resources to a blanket to an adult coloring book and more, The Prescription Shoppe creates baskets for different types of cancer: colon, ovarian, and uterine cancer, and also miscarriages.
We ended the interview with some comments about Jade’s Book, Mustard Seed Mentality: Unscripted Pearls of Wisdom from a Wife, Mother, and Entrepreneur. Fun fact! Jade typed out the book on her phone. Then, she turned it into a book! The book provides support and encouragement from one Mom to another, but everyone will enjoy it – especially men who want to understand women better.
